The board of directors of the Minnesota Transitions Charter School (MTCS) has announced that Dennis Carlson, the former superintendent of the Anoka-Hennepin School District, will serve as interim superintendent of MTCS for the remainder of the 2016-17 school year.

Rebecca Juntunen, chair of the MTCS board, said: “We are most pleased that we will have an educator with Mr. Carlson’s experience, talent and judgment leading our district as interim superintendent through the school year.”

Carlson began his career in education as an art teacher and then served the Anoka-Hennepin district in a variety of roles, including community education director and assistant superintendent.  He became the Anoka-Hennepin Superintendent in 2008 and served until 2014.  Anoka-Hennepin is one of Minnesota’s largest school districts.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, he later earned an advanced degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Minnesota Transition Charter School has an enrollment of 2,700, with students attending MTCS Elementary School, MTCS High School, Banaadir Academy, Banaadir South, PEASE Academy, General Colin L. Powell Leadership Academy, Minnesota Virtual High School and MN Connections Academy.
