Powell Leadership Academy cadets Zavion (9th Grade) and Leobardo (10th Grade) placed 1st and 2nd respectively during last Saturday’s 5th District American Legion Oratorical Contest.

The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Since 1938, the program has presented participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation’s laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship.

Cadet Zavion Dillard will advance to the semi-finals on March 3rd. Each Cadet won a cash prize of $300 and $200 respectively. You can learn more about the Oratorical here: https://www.legion.org/oratorical/about

This is a terrific opportunity for Powell Leadership Academy cadets to not only perfect their speaking and presentation skills—also to earn significant scholarships for post-secondary education.

Please congratulate Zavion and Leo when you see them!
