Second half of the year is underway at Banaadir South. Students will be taking the Winter Map Assessment in the next couple of weeks. This assessment informs the teachers and students about each student is doing in their classroom in reading and math. The teachers will conference with each student to discuss goals for the rest of the year.
Teachers have been working with students on test taking strategies to help them when they take the test. These strategies can be various. The strategies for reading could be underlining the main idea or main character, highlighting key details or implementing a process of elimination. The Strategies for Math could be teaching students what the problem is, what are they important numbers or what is the operation that is required in this problem. Having students show their work before selecting the answer is a way to help students feel confident in their testing taking abilities as well as in their learning.
