Marcie Anderson, kindergarten teacher at MTS Elementary School, obtained a $3,572 grant from Hennepin County to begin a recycling program.
\nThe entire school is involved, as the milk and juice cartons and all paper products are put into recycling containers.\u00a0 Food scraps and compostable materials are collected and traded for compost from the county that is ready for the garden.
\nOne requirement for the grant is to collect data on the weekly quantity in the\u00a0 recycling bin as compared to the trash container.\u00a0 The fourth-graders handle this task.
\n\u201cI did this because we need to be good stewards of the earth and teach the little ones,\u201d said Anderson. \u201cOur kids notice what we can do to help the earth.\u201d\u00a0 Additional school recycling grants for 2016 are available from Hennepin County.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
