Many people are coping due to loss of their normal state of living, and we need to spend some time talking to our children about this because their lives also changed.  They are used to going to school, seeing friends, and going places your particular family goes. Please keep in mind that as adults we better understand why we are staying home, and take time to talk to your kids.  Also try to find new fun things to do, such as games, movies, or simply going for a walk. It is ok to go outside and get some exercise as long as you are doing it only with the people that live in your home. Be mindful to keep distance between you and any other people you see when you are outside.<\/p>\n<p>Some great mental health breaks are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Getting exercise, even if is only a walk around the block<\/li>\n<li>Eating healthy foods<\/li>\n<li>Limit news coverage, as watching too many updates can be overwhelming<\/li>\n<li>Call or Video Chat with family or friends that do not live in your home so you stay connected.<\/li>\n<li>Talk to your children to answer their questions with good and factual information, as there is a lot of inaccurate information about COVID-19 circulating<\/li>\n<li>Spend time with kids, doing anything they enjoy<\/li>\n<li>And most of all make sure you reach out if your child, you, or someone else in your home is really struggling with their mental health<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite the lock down, there are still many mental health resources available if you need them.  Please send me an email or give me a call, reach out to your student\u2019s teacher, or call your primary care providers office for recommendations in this ever changing time.  Also if your child needs a break from school work, give them one.
