Concurrent Enrollment classes, which allow students to earn both high school and college credits, have come to MTS High School. The classes save time and money for those entering college.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have some very talented students and this will have an impact on their success going forward,\u201d said Principal Larry Ronglien.<\/p>\n
Mai Cao is teaching Strategies for College Success to 13 10th to 12th grade. The class involves planning, goal setting, critical thinking, writing and reading skills. They will also visit several college campuses.<\/p>\n
Cao believes the most challenging aspect of the class is the exams. \u201cThis is a great opportunity for the students to get college credits in the high school setting,\u201d she said. She expects the course will be useful for MTS and post-secondary classes.<\/p>\n
Students qualify for the Concurrent Enrollment program by their standardized test scores. Teachers must have a master\u2019s degree in the subject taught and are mentored by a college professor.<\/p>\n
The next college level class is second semester. English composition will be taught in the second semester by Becky Falkum.<\/p>\n
