Ladies and Gents,

The General Colin L. Powell Leadership Academy Cadets underwent a formal JROTC Program of Accreditation (JPA) assessment yesterday (4/10/2018). The Cadets received  195 out of a possible 200 points for a 97.5% and qualified them for the highest level of accreditation which is classified as an “Honor Unit with Distinction.” They will each be awarded a Gold Star to wear on their uniforms. They will retain this designation until the next inspection in three years.

Since 2005, the Army JROTC program has been accredited by a national accrediting agency known as AdvancED (www.advanc-ed.org). As an accredited Special Purpose Program, JROTC must adhere to AdvancED’s Standards for Quality.

The purpose of JPA is to gather data and information at a point in time to inform the Army JROTC program at large of the improvements made over the period of time from the last school visit to the current visit. JPA gathers information and evidence to support the continuous improvement of teaching and learning in the JROTC program.

Cadets were assessed in the following areas:

In-ranks inspection
Drill
Color Guard
Portfolios
Service Learning
Continuous Improvement Program

On behalf of 1SG Chapman and all the Cadets, I would like to personally thank the families of our Cadets and the entire MTS family for all their support and flexibility this year leading up to this accreditation. Everything from excusing Cadets from class in order to prepare and practice, to use of the gym, to transportation, lunch, teaching, coaching, mentoring and caring…all went into helping our Cadets achieve this outstanding result! And for that we are grateful!
