I want to welcome all of our students and families back to school following spring break. I hope you had a restful week and that you were able to find time to reconnect as a family with the change to the daily schedule. As we get back into the regular routine, I’d like to share a couple of announcements pertaining to the last quarter of the school year.
The spring assessment season is officially upon us. Our students will be taking the MCA (grades 3-11) and NWEA (grades K-12) assessments as we progress through April and May. The MCA is a state mandated assessment that measures student proficiency in reading, math and science. MCA results are typically released to the school in mid to late summer and then mailed home to families. The NWEA assessment is a local assessment that we use at MTCS to measure student growth and proficiency. We receive these results immediately and use them to help direct our instruction. Feel free to reach out to your student’s teacher or school administration for NWEA results. For your student to perform at their best for these assessments, please remind them to get enough rest, eat a good breakfast, and offer some positive reinforcement on the day of the test. No single test is “that important” but the results do help us know how to best serve your student. Testing schedules for each school will be communicated by the school.
The end of the third quarter is April 7th. For most of our schools (not MVS), report cards will be processed and mailed home in the week following the end of the grading period. You are always welcome to check in with your student’s teachers regarding grades and assignments. By working together, we can create positive outcomes for your student.
During the month of April, we will begin the enrollment process for the 2023-2024 school year. By enrolling during the Spring, you ensure your seat at an MTCS school for the upcoming year. Having a strong idea of next year’s enrollment allows us to staff our schools efficiently. Finally, completing the enrollment process in advance helps to ensure that transportation is set up accurately for the first day of school in the fall.
