On Thursday, November 29, we had approximately 66 families (300 people) come to our Family Reading night! What a great turnout! Our theme was “Daily 5” because we are teaching our students using this method in our classrooms this year. The five skills we are practicing are: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing and Word Work. Students in grades K-5 could go to different classrooms to practice these reading strategies with games and fun books.
Students in Middle School participated in many reading activities including winter-themed Mad Libs, the science of snowflakes, winter poetry, and comparing a movie with a book about Alaska. After the activities ended, we all sat down to eat a cozy dinner of chili, salad and corn bread. Yum! After dinner, we had a raffle drawing. It was a lot of fun! Students earned raffle tickets by participating in the classroom activities. Then, we drew names for themed baskets such as Toys, Art Materials, School Supplies, Movies/Snacks, Sports, Drawing/Coloring, Games and Reading. We gave away over ten baskets filled with prizes! Thank you to all of the families that donated items for the raffle!
Our next Family Night will take place on Thursday, May 2 from 5:30-7:30. We look forward to seeing you there!
