Mrs. Uzendoski’s Power Hour Reading class has been studying the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. We have learned that Dr. King won the Nobel Peace Prize by using peaceful methods to change unjust laws. He changed the world by “fighting hate with love.”
As a class, we were inspired to try to change the world, too. We agreed that we all could do something to help out at home or at school—by improving even a small part of our world, we could make a difference! Below are some of our ideas:

Nimo Aden: One way to change the world is to be a good friend to others. Another way is to help your family. One way to change the school “world” is to follow directions the first time they are given.

Shadia Essa: When I get bigger, I will help the world by being a nurse. I will try to make people feel better.

Nafisa Ali: I would help the world by being sure everyone has enough food.

Mohamed Nasir: I help my mom by carrying her bags from Walmart. I help my dad by opening the door.

Abdirizak Yaqub: I help my mom by putting the kids to bed.

Masuud Mohamed:
I am a good friend to others by being nice. I also pick up the trash from the floor.
