The fourth graders at Banaadir Academy studied the Southwest Region of the United States as a part of our summer school cultural curriculum. The students in Mr. Hall and Mrs. U’s class read about Navajo culture and how Navajo tribes have weaved decorative rugs for centuries. We were intrigued by these creations and wanted to explore the techniques used by the Native Americans to make these types of rugs. We researched their methods on how to use a basic loom and replicated this process on a smaller scale by using cardboard looms.

Learning about the Navajo culture was interesting and FUN!
