Good morning, MTCS community,

While we anticipated reaching out to all of you today as we navigate the 2 year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, we did not anticipate adding more horror to an already devestating day. It has taken me until now to wrap my mind around how we come into school today while holding the incredible amount of pain and grief we feel as a result of yesterday’s tragic school shooting. In some ways, this speaks to what we do and who we are. Even when the weight of the worst parts of human behavior seem too much to bear, we are able to recognize that we are still needed by our students. No matter how much pain we endure, we find a place for it so that we can still create space for children. That is truly remarkable.

Please know that you are deeply loved. Your safety and well-being is at the forefront of every decision we make with intention and purpose. Please wrap around yourselves and each other as we reflect on the impacts of these egregious acts of violence. Please hold space for students and families as we process the unfathomable. We may all need a little extra for a while.

Please reach out to any of our district social workers for any reason and lean on each other as we finish up the year together. Please communicate your needs so that we can provide the support. We hold each of you in profound gratitude for all you do to fill our community with love, kindness and compassion, today and every day.

Thank you for being you.

Wendy and Shawn
