Dear Parents/Guardians of P.E.A.S.E. Academy Students,

Summer is winding down and it’s again time to think about getting ready for the start of school, which this year is Tuesday, September 3rd at 8:30 a.m.  Hopefully, your student is still planning to stay enrolled at P.E.A.S.E. Academy and has maintained their sobriety throughout the summer.  If your student is not planning to return to us in the fall, please call and let us know as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.  We also need to hear if there has been a change in your student’s recovery date.  A change does not necessarily mean that they cannot return to us this fall; we just need to have a conversation in order to determine whether or not they are stable in their recovery to insure the safety of all our students.

In this mailing you will find several items.  The purple sheet has P.E.A.S.E. Academy’s school year calendar on one side and a flier announcing our Parents of PEASE (POP) Support Group.  POP is wonderful way to meet other parents with children in recovery and learn from our school’s CD Counselor. We hope to see you on the 1st Thursday of most months.  The green sheet is this year’s student school supply list.  Please make sure your child has the necessary supplies.  If there are any problems securing any of the items, please let us know and we can make the necessary arrangements.  We are also including three forms that need to be filled out and returned with your student on the first day of school.  These include: the school lunch form (Application for Educational Benefits), the 2019-20 Student Health Form, and a release of information form. Your child’s advisor will be calling to create a class schedule.

I’d also like to reiterate that all students must attend our Friday Community Service Learning Workshop from 12-2:00 at PEASE AcademyToo many of our students in past years saw our Community Service requirement as optional.  It is not optional, and they will be required to be at school every Friday afternoon.  Our hope is that the students find a community organization to volunteer with for 2 hours every week.  If they establish this commitment, clear it with our Community Service Coordinator, and turn in their hours, they do not have to attend on Friday afternoon.  Otherwise, they will be with us until 2:00 on Fridays working on community service projects here at the school. To help with this endeavor, we are excited to be continuing our partnership with Americorps’ program known as Recovery Corps.

Again, if your child is not going to be returning to P.E.A.S.E., or there has been a change in his/her sobriety date, please let the school know as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns please call.

Sincerely,
Michael F. Durchslag
Executive Director
