One of the core philosophies of MTS Elementary is sharing gifts and talents with each other to develop and grow—real learning is a lot more than just tests and classrooms. This kind of sharing takes place every day in the classrooms and hallways of MTS Elementary. Also built in to the school year are special Friday Family Day explorations where students share in activities in cross grade groups. Students (and staff) get the chance to learn from each other in new ways.
One of the really amazing things about MTS Elementary is how it partners in the community, with artists, authors, musicians, dancers, readers and all kinds of people who share their talents and gifts with very eager K-6th graders.
“Everyone does better when we share our gifts, talents, and energy with each other,” said Principal Dornfeld. “It helps us not only learn, but build community.”
Recently, some of the members of the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma from the University of Minnesota came to read at a Reading is Fundamental event. They read to the kindergarten, first and second grade students and donated several boxes of books. Every MTSE student will be able to choose books to take home and keep.
And a different kind of team sharing took place during the Vikings and Packers Day at MTS Elementary.
Students and staff recently wore their Viking or Packers wear to school and in the afternoon the entire school played a game of touch football in the school’s beautiful gym. Everyone had a great time! “I looked around and saw a lot of joy!” Said MTS Elementary Principal, Sue Dornfeld.
A lot of joy—maybe that’s what makes MTS Elementary School such a great school!
