Welcome and Welcome Back MTS Elementary Families! I am so delighted that you have chosen to be a part of our amazing community. I hope each of you are experiencing a summer filled with joy and wonderful discoveries.
Planning is well underway at school for another positive and productive school year. We have added a few new faces, contracted for new transportation and done some meaningful planning around instruction and social emotional learning.
New to our staff this year will be; Katie Vergeront in Kindergarten, Mikala Schock in 3rd/4th grade, Lee Metzger in Physical Education, Megan Lexen will be our Social Worker and Marisa Rivera Lugo has joined on as our Community Engagement Coordinator. We interviewed many candidates and are extremely pleased to have each of these bright and enthusiastic people join our community.
After reviewing several transportation options, we have contracted with Collaborative Student Transportation of Minnesota to provide our morning and afternoon bus service. We will also be working with Coherent Transportation and Connections Transportation to meet some of our other transportation needs. We are confident that each of these companies will provide dependable, reliable service for all of our families.
To support our standards based instruction, we have purchased several new Chromebooks so that every student will have one in the classroom. We are also venturing into ELearning so that when weather closes school students can still be learning and interacting with their teachers. Changes to Friday afternoons have also been made, while our teachers are engaging in professional development, students will be working on project based learning, handwriting, reading and math with support from MTCS staff. We will not be one of the early release sites mentioned in the Superintendent’s letter.
Finally, two important dates to add to your calendar. Thursday, August 29th will be our back to school night from 4:00-7:00 and Tuesday, September 3rd will be our first day of school. This year’s school day will start and 7:45 and dismiss at 2:30.
