A committed group of MTS Secondary and General Colin L. Powell Leadership Academy staff recently led twenty-eight students to Northern Minnesota. The popular winter camping experience (the 4th annual!) hosted more students than ever before.

With less than ideal winter weather, staff and students still had an amazing and memorable time. What a learning experience for students! Highlights included exploring the north shore of Lake Superior on the way up, boot hockey and soccer on the lake, flying a kite, playing with the sled dogs, a hike to a frozen waterfall and even a visit to the Canadian border. Along with the outdoor adventures, there were evenings full of games and puzzles, reflective journaling and lots of antics and camaraderie.

And of course, a highlight of the trip was the polar plunge!

MTS Arts teacher, Ms. Albin, arranges the winter, summer and fall expeditions in partnership with Minnesota non-profits, and many other amazing MTS staff. These are trips that students and staff look forward to each year.

MTS Secondary is committed to offering students a chance to push beyond their comfort zones and experience something new. A winter camping expedition like this opens up the world.
