September 26, 2024 Board Meeting Summary
Amazing things can happen when teachers, parents and the community work together to create educational opportunities for youth.
The MTCS Board of Directors met on Thursday, September 26, 2024 for its monthly, regular board meeting. This month’s meeting was mostly focused around updates and changes to MTCS Policies. Outside of policy adoptions, the major changes that took place was the addition of two new teachers to the Board. In order to fill vacant Board seats, the Board reviewed applications that were submitted, by current MTCS teachers, and decided to appoint Matt Edgar and Mars Robmann, to fill the vacant Board seats. Thank you to all that expressed interest and applied to fill these Board seats. It is very much appreciated. The board is continuing to search for a parent member to appoint to fill its remaining open seat. If you know of anyone willing to serve as a parent member on the MTCS Board of Directors please pass along their contact information to Peter Rand.

Things to know.
Wondering what happened to the Annual Meeting? The Minnesota Legislature recently made changes to Annual Meetings and Board Member placement for charter schools, requiring new board of directors to be placed, fully trained on the board in July of a year. Due to this change in law, the MTCS Board of Directors has decided to move our annual meeting from October to April. So, the Annual Meeting will be held on April 24th, 2025. The Board of Directors also voted to extend current director terms to June of 2025 to account for this change in law. Going forward, the MTCS Annual Meeting will be held in April. This allows time for newly elected board members to be trained in June, before being seated in July, per the new law.

Spotlight
The MTCS District is made up of talented, passionate people! Read about one of them here.

(Tyler and his pooch Mike Wazowski)
Tyler Frankhouse joined the Minnesota Transitions Board as a community member in 2020. He served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the board in 2020 and then stepped into the Board Chair position in 2021. Tyler helped MTCS navigate the rebuilding of our District offices and MTS Secondary, the pandemic, the Superintendent Search process and strategic planning–a very important time in the life of our schools. Under Tyler’s leadership, we became stronger.
In 2023, the board chair position opened and though Tyler’s term was complete, the current board of directors asked him to consider another two year term in order to transition the new members into leadership roles. Since then, he has been a strong and consistent board member and voice for our schools. At the September meeting, Tyler passed the Board Chair position to then Vice-Chair, Peter Rand and Tyler will serve as Vice-Chair.
We want to thank Tyler for not only offering strong and steady leadership during his years at MTCS, but also for his willingness to do what was best for our schools. And, congratulations, Tyler, on your upcoming October wedding!
