[Minneapolis, MN, September 16, 2025] — Minnesota Transitions Charter School’s (MTCS) MTS Secondary welcomed students from P.E.A.S.E. Academy, Banaadir Academy, and high schools across the state (virtually) to celebrate National Voter Registration Day with Secretary of State Steve Simon.

The event gave young people the chance to hear first-hand about the power of voting and to practice using a real election set-up in the school’s community room. Students were also able to register early, ensuring they’ll be ready to vote when they turn 18.

“This day is about you. When you are voting, you are expressing your views. Your values. Your idea of what the future should be,” said Secretary Simon, encouraging students to find their passion and use it to strengthen their communities.

J’Reyn, MTS Secondary student echoed the message. “I can vote for people who want the same change that I do.”

Another student speaker shared, “Every one of us can make a difference. Change starts with us.”

Superintendent Shawn Fondow added: “Our mission as a school district is to expose our students to opportunities and experiences that will help shape the future. We were honored to host this event with the Secretary of State’s office and to give our students a chance to experience democracy in action.”

This celebration highlighted MTCS’s commitment to giving students real-world, meaningful experiences that empower them to shape their futures — and the future of their community.
