Thank you to the teachers, parents and community members from the Minnesota Transitions Charter School community, for your interest in serving on the MTCS Board of Directors. One of the defining aspects of Charter Schools is being run by a teacher majority board, with parent and community representation. It is an honor to work together to make important decisions for our students and the future.

Per MTCS bylaws, the MTCS Board must maintain a teacher majority, with at least one parent and one community member. This can make the election process complicated at times. This year there were a number of parents who ran for the board, and we had a limited number of teachers who submitted their intention to run prior to the deadline.

MTCS bylaws and state law have very specific rules about board member eligibility and the date in which charter school board member terms begin. Board members must meet these requirements throughout the entirety of their term. During the election, we found that two candidates that appeared on the ballot would no longer meet these guidelines and were removed from consideration as candidates. We did have two very strong write-in candidates, with one of them, Sarah Blair, winning the second teacher board seat.

I am pleased to announce the following candidates as winners of the election. New board member terms, as determined by statute, will begin on July 1.

Ashley Romano (teacher)

Sarah Blair (teacher)

Markahyla Franklin (parent)

Holly Johnson (parent)
