Dear Parents / Guardians,

We were notified by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) of a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in a member of the Banaadir Elementary School community with an exposure date of 04/20/21. For privacy reasons, we cannot share details about the status of the people. At this time, they have been advised to stay home and away from other people (isolate). We have worked with MDH to identify and notify those who had close contact with the person who has COVID-19. The risk of exposure for other people present in the building on that date is no greater than the risk of contracting the virus in the general community. If you or your child were not notified that you had close contact with the person, you should still monitor for symptoms of illness, but do not need to stay home unless symptoms develop. If symptoms develop, stay home and consult with your health care provider to determine if medical evaluation is needed. We are working closely with MDH to monitor the situation.

As a result of the number of people exposed to this case, as well as numerous recent illnesses within the school building, Banaadir Elementary School will be shifting to a Distance Learning educational model effective 04/21/21 through 05/04/21. We recognize that this is not the ideal situation for students or families, and apologize for an inconvenience that this may cause you. To maintain a safe and healthy school environment for everyone, we feel that this is the best decision for us to make at this time to prevent the continued spread of illness and the COVID-19 virus.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact our Building Director, Kelsey Bennett. Thank you for your support and helping to keep our school community safe.

Sincerely,

Kelsey Bennett
