Students at MTS Elementary have been enjoying rich cultural experiences recently. For Hispanic Heritage month, a  Mariachi band came to the school and performed for a very enthusiastic group of Kindergarten to Sixth graders. Dancing, clapping and a lot of energy filled the room as students learned about and shared in Hispanic culture and  celebration.

In honor of Indigenous People’s Day, the Hoka Hey Drum Group visited MTS Elementary (and the other MTCS schools) to acknowledge and share their talents. “The drum represents the first sound you hear when you are being created—your mother’s heartbeat,” once of the drummers shared.  “Listen to the drum and think of the heart.” Each of the drummers shared a bit of their story with the students and performed rich, beautiful song and drum, including a very clever version of Old McDonald!

Students enjoyed both experiences very much and not only had fun, but got to learn about and share parts of their culture and traditions.
