Getting Calm and Centered at MTS Elementary

Getting Calm and Centered at MTS ElementaryExciting things are happening at MTS Elementary. This season, grades 3-6 have had the opportunity to do yoga during the school day, thanks to a Moving & Learning Residency with 1,000 petals. Staff and students take time to stretch and bend and breathe—giving their bodies a nice break and also learning some new skills, like:

  • Breathing techniques
  • Yoga-based movement
  • Guided relaxation

Students love the change of pace, and it also builds new skills that not only help them during a school day, but also in their whole lives. Yoga has many benefits and has even been shown to help student achievement. Some of the great benefits of yoga are:

  • Focus
  • Attention
  • Managing emotions
  • Reducing anxiety

But, a student gives the best answer to the question of what do you think about yoga? “I can’t wait to do this—it makes me feel good!”

MTS Elementary is committed to giving students a great education, and tools they can use for their whole lives. Yoga is one of the many ways students discover strategies and practices that can help during stressful school days and life!
