Dear parents, students, and community members,

I am pleased to be able to report to you on several exciting and positive developments as we celebrate our 20th anniversary at Minnesota Transitions Charter School.  We are expanding the areas we serve and providing new and innovative offerings to better serve people in the community.

With the success of our popular Banaadir Academy on the north side, Banaadir South has opened in South Minneapolis, with a registration of about 85 students.  MTCS High School has grown with the addition of 7th and 8th grades.

One exciting new program is the General Colin L. Powell Leadership Academy, essentially a pre-college program with an emphasis on strong academics and a military-like approach to discipline and performance.  This more rigorous academy will prepare students for a range of higher education opportunities and careers.

I am pleased to announce that Dennis Carlson has joined the district as interim superintendent.  The former Anoka-Hennepin district superintendent will serve our district through the end of the 2016-2017 school year.  The MTCS Board of Directors also engaged a firm to assist in our search for a permanent superintendent, someone who can lead the district towards greater academic achievement and more promising futures for our students.  While responsive to the needs and interests of students, parents, teachers and members of the community, the primary focus will be on what is best for our students.

On behalf of MTCS I would like to invite you to visit any of our schools and learn more about what we’re doing to become an even better education resource.
