Welcome back to school MTS Secondary Family!

We are all eagerly looking forward to our first day of school on September 8th. While the beginning to this school year will look and feel much different than in years past, we are confident we have created the best possible school experience for your student considering the health and safety concerns in our community today.

MTS Secondary will begin the year in a distance learning model. Students will use their school issued devices – chromebooks from last school year – to access their teachers and their courses from home. If you need a chromebook or need help accessing affordable and reliable internet, please contact one of the resources listed below for support.

You may have noticed that MTS Secondary has been in the news over the last couple of days. The Mall of America has generously donated a 17,000 square foot storefront for a temporary MTS Secondary. This space will be open to staff on September 8th for the first day of school While we are still starting the year in distance learning, the Mall of America offers us the opportunity to work with students that need support in small groups. We will have more information about scheduling appointments for student support and parent meetings at our site at the Mall of America once we move in and can institute health and safety protocols.

We are rebuilding our home in South Minneapolis. The plans are exciting, innovative, and amazing. We are hoping to be able to move back home in late winter or early spring.

MTS Secondary will be moving to a modified block schedule this school year. Students will log into online courses at the beginning of course meeting times for live instruction with their teacher. A sample schedule would look like this:

We will have 7 periods over 2 days.  The first period meets every day for 50 minutes and each of the 3 block style classes will meet every other day.

Class “A” Day Class “B” Day
1 8:20 – 9:10 (Economics / Government)
2 9:15 – 10:55 (French) 5 9:15 – 10:55 (Language Arts)
3 11:50 – 1:30 (Science) 6 11:50 – 1:30 (Algebra)
4 1:35 – 3:15 (PE) 7 1:35 – 3:15 (Music)

There will be a virtual open house held on Thursday, September 3rd from 2:00-3:00. This session will be available via Zoom. Invitations will be sent via email to students and parents. We will also make the link available via MTCS.org.
