Watching Elementary and Secondary students create, work and learn together, high-five each other in healthy competition is a great education moment.
This fall Banaadir Secondary initiated a buddy program where Secondary students regularly visit the Elementary school and students work together on various projects. Banaadir Academy K-12 has two campuses–Banaadir Elementary in Northeast Minneapolis and Banaadir Secondary in North Minneapolis.
This week Banaadir Elementary 3rd, 4th and 5th graders met Banaadir Secondary students in the Elementary building’s library with the aerodynamic task of making the farthest flying paper airplane. Students worked in teams and made and decorated airplanes. They went to the gym where each team took turns flying their planes—the winning plane making it more than halfway across the gym!
Younger students benefit from having positive role models, learning from and building good relationships with older students. Older students practice leadership and guidance. All the students look forward to it!
