MTCS High School and Minneapolis, Roosevelt are collaborating to offer students great opportunities. MTCS students spend a couple periods at Roosevelt learning and practicing welding skills. They’ve done many small practice projects—welding metal pieces together—and students got to make their own toolboxes. They brought the beautiful shiny silver boxes home today. They look very professional. “The only hard part was putting the side on,” said one of the students.

Knowing how to weld opens up exciting career options. MTCS offers students many kinds of experiences to explore, try and learn what kinds of things they like doing and might want to think about as future careers, along with preparing them for college.

These Trade Skills Academy students are learning so much. And next year, there will be even more collaborating –with various labor union experts sharing skills and other plans.
