MTS students visit Biz Town
An important goal of MTS Secondary is to prepare students in order that they have so many choices when they graduate. Offering students hands-on experiences to learn real life skills is part of that preparation.
Recently MTS students spent the day at Junior Achievement BizTown. JA BizTown offers youth an opportunity to collaborate with their classmates to do things like: build companies, learn new financial skills, invest in the community and so many important things. Working with BizTown volunteers, students get a chance to practice real business and community skills in a simulated city setting.
MTS students engaged in hands on learning with finance professionals from across ten different industries. Students were given a work persona and income and tracked real life budget choices throughout their day. A wide range of topics were covered including: housing, transportation, groceries and child care.
“We can’t wait to go back next year!” Mr. Gharrity said, who coordinated the outing as well as other career related opportunities.
