Dear MTCS family,

We hope you and your family are doing well this summer. We are looking forward to teaching your scholars again this year, beginning September 8, 2020.

We sent out a survey in early August and phone calls were made to better understand how families feel about sending their students back to the physical buildings in September. We want to work with you and we hear you. After receiving many responses with the majority of families indicating that they were more comfortable with distance learning at this time, and reviewing the latest health information, falling planning is underway.

As a district and with your feedback, we have made the decision to begin the school year with distance learning in 2020-21, with the exception of P.E.A.S.E. Academy whose plan will be communicated directly. As we continue to monitor data provided by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), and Hennepin County, we will plan accordingly and announce the next phase of learning on or before October 14th, 2020.

We are continuously committed to making all MTCS programs, including our online learning, stronger and better. Staff are invested in your students’ success. All MTCS staff are ready to help support your family with technology, online tutoring and anything else you need.

We feel confident that distance learning is the best option to keep everyone healthy right now, and we will continue to develop plans for various in-person models.

More information will be coming from your child’s individual school no later than August 14th, 2020 as well as the most current information on the MTCS.org website at all times.

Thank you for the privilege to serve your scholar and for your trust in MTCS.

Sincerely,
Brian Erlandson, MTCS Superintendent
