Happy fall to the MTS Secondary community!

It is hard to believe we are through the first five weeks of the school year and have passed the midpoint of the first quarter. While this has been a start to the school year that none of us hoped for, I am extremely proud of the resilience of our students and of their ability to successfully adapt to a new way of learning.

Along with the yearly MEA break – (No school October 14-16), we have parent teacher conferences scheduled for this week. As the pandemic has made holding typical, in person conferences unsafe, we will be holding virtual and telephone conferences throughout the course of this week. Please expect a few calls from teachers between Monday and Thursday of this week. If there is a teacher you really want to speak with, tell the teacher you are speaking with to relay that information. In addition to teacher initiated phone calls, you can reach out directly to any of the teachers at any time. Finally, you can use any of the contact information below to help connect with any teachers.

I would also like to make you all aware that we have begun hosting live tutoring sessions at our temporary MTS Secondary home at the Mall of America. We have hosted nearly 30 students for 2 hour sessions over the last two weeks. During this time, we have been able to help students organize their work, understand the digital platforms their classes are hosted on, and give individual instruction. Sanitizing, masks, and social distancing are required and enforced. If you think this would be beneficial to your student, reach out to any of the contacts below.

It is important to note the phenomenal support we have received from our community over the past six months. Many of you know, the Mall of America has donated our temporary space rent free. I would also like to highlight TCF Bank for its donation of $50,000 to purchase chromebooks for students, IKEA for donating nearly $20,000 of furniture and services, Intereum for donating many thousands of dollars worth of furniture, SDG for its “adopt a classroom” campaign which will provide all of the technology necessary for a classroom, and finally Hy-Vee for its donation of ready to eat meals for families and backpacks stuffed with school supplies and meals to be prepared as a family. It is truly heartwarming to see the way the community has come together in support of our school community.
