Many successes are being celebrated here at Banaadir Academy. Before everyone headed off for Winter break, students took the NWEA test in both math and reading. This test shows how much growth each student has made academically. We are so proud of all the students for working hard and trying their best on the test. The scores definitely show all the learning and hard work that has taken place in the first half of the year. The staff is so proud of everyone and students celebrated their successes in their classrooms and by visiting the school store.
Before winter break, the 5th and 6th grade classes had the opportunity to go on a field trip to BizTown. JA BizTown is a 12,000 square foot simulated city located in St. Paul. Several weeks of classroom learning culminates in a day-long visit to this experiential learning lab where students become adults for a day. Students learn what it takes to run a successful business, manage a debit card and checking account, and work as a team. Volunteers are paired with small groups of students to help them make important business and personal finance decisions in their assigned JA BizTown shop. Through daily lessons, hands-on activities, and active participation in this simulated economy, students develop a strong understanding of the relationship between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the “real world.” The students from Banaadir Academy represented their school well by listening, following directions, and enjoying their time practicing being an adult.
5th graders will be heading to the science museum in the upcoming weeks to explore and learn about dinosaurs and fossils, engineering exploration, as well as force and motion. They are excited to take what they have learned in science class and see it in action at the science museum.
