Black History Month MTCS style means: delicious food, inspiring speakers, talented students and sharing with the community.

You are invited—MTCS students, families and community members—to celebrate with us this February 23rd from 12:00 to 3:30, at MTCS Secondary School at 2872 26thAvenue S, Minneapolis 55406.

The event will kick-off with a delicious lunch of chicken, greens, cornbread and other treats to be followed by performances in the school’s gym featuring: music performed by MTS students, drums and steppers, poetry and more.

Along with talented students, two guest speakers: Lonte Hill and Brigette Wiley with The Chicago Bridge Magazine. Debonaire (Andre McNeil) will emcee the event.

The celebration is the culmination of a month-long study of black history in our society, and its impact on our lives. In civics, literature, art and music, through all the grades and schools, students have been exploring the many ways our world is made richer because of this deep history. Some staff and students will also wear traditional African dress at this cultural event on February 23rd.

We hope you will join us. The flyer for the event (In English, Spanish and Somali and Arabic) is right here, and for more information call 612.722.9013.
