Where Are We Now: P.E.A.S.E. Alumni Rosie BenserRosie attended P.E.A.S.E. Academy off and on from 2004 to when she graduated in 2009. Her teenage years were challenging, and she wouldn’t have graduated high school and had a foundation to begin her adult life were it not for P.E.A.S.E. and the support she received from its staff and her peers. She continued her educational and recovery journey at Augsburg University’s StepUp program where she graduated with a BA in Sociology in 2013.

She served with Americorps for a year before starting her MA in Sociology at Syracuse University, which she finished in 2016. Since then, Rosie has been a youth advocate for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness in the Twin Cities. She is currently working towards her Ph.D in Sociology at Syracuse University where she plans to study LGBTQ+ youth homelessness.

While Rosie’s recovery journey hasn’t been entirely linear, she now has over 21 months in sustained recovery, attends weekly 12-step meetings, works with a sponsor, and sponsors other women. The most important thing she’s learned in recovery is to never give up.
