P.E.A.S.E. Academy has had a wonderful start of the 2019-20 school year.  This year began with us hiring a wonderful new Language Arts Teacher, Sara Roberts, who, because of her experience, will positively impact our students both academically and their recovery.  The entire P.E.A.S.E. Academy staff was trained, and continue to be trained, by 1000 Petals to provide Mindful Movement for our students. As we become increasingly better with being a Trauma Responsive School, the techniques that we all are learning will go a long way to help everybody with self-regulation.  We are already seeing dividends within the first month of implementation.

The school has had a busy first month.  Besides the wonderful academics that have students engaged in their learning process, there have been numerous events that have helped strengthen our sense of community.  On Tuesday, September 10th, we held our Parents of P.E.A.S.E. Open House.  Many families were able to come in, meet the entire P.E.A.S.E. Academy staff, and hear about the plan for all the different classes we offer.  We hope to continue to keep our parents engaged with the school through a variety of way, including our monthly Parents Support Group that meets the first Thursday of every month.  The theme for October’s Support Group was ‘Consistency and Accountability.’

P.E.A.S.E. Academy had a wonderful turnout for MN Recovery Connection’s annual Walk for Recovery on Saturday, September 14th at the State Capital.  Decked out in our white P.E.A.S.E. Academy t-shirts, students, staff, and parents let the 1000s of participants that recovery is not only possible for adolescents, it’s a reality.  Then on Saturday, September 28th, P.E.A.S.E. hosted its annual Pancake Breakfast.  Over 180 people attended, including over 30 of our alumni.  We were treated to hearing the Experience, Strength, and Hope of one of our 11th Graders, who besides telling his story also stated that “this was the first year he ever looked forward to returning to school.”  All the proceeds raised will go towards helping with our students’ end of the year Prom to which all of the MN Recovery Schools are invited to be a part of.
