Testing

The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) state tests are given to evaluate students’ competence in the application of the processes and concepts of the state graduation standards. MTCS uses the MCA data to identify program strengths and weaknesses and to identify student growth.

As a parent/guardian, there are things you can do to help prepare students for testing time:

  • Share your enthusiasm and interest in reading, mathematics and science with your children

  • Provide students with a study area at home

  • Encourage students to practice good study habits and set aside time every day for homework

  • Ensure students get a good night’s sleep and eat a nutritious breakfast before taking a test

  • Encourage students to try their best and answer all test questions

*Graduation Requirement
Students first enrolled in Grade 8 in 2012–2013 and later must be provided the opportunity to participate in a district-provided college entrance exam in grade 11 or grade 12. (education.state.mn.us)
